An improvement on the spur gear, helical gears are discs with teeth cut at an angle along the rounded edges. These gears can be placed parallel or at a 90 degree angle from each other for different mechanical purposes. Helical gears are quieter and run more smoothly than more archaic designs. However, they take more skill to create, and thus are more expensive and more rare.
